CUTENESS ALERT!

Happy Good Friday everyone!

I have been busy working on quilts (and baskets of goodies!) for the guild’s QuiltFest 2019, which will be held in June this year. I was asked at the last minute to make a quilt for our youth/kids as a fundraiser for summer camps. I’m a sucker for the kids, so despite my busy, busy schedule, I decided to push back my pumpkin quilt and stitch up something for the youth. Stay tuned next week for more about that quilt! I will be participating in the Be a Diamond Blog Hop, hosted by Carol from Just Let Me Quilt beginning on the 22nd, next week. My day is the 23rd, so stay tuned for my post then!

At any rate, as I was stitching away, the cutest little squirrel suddenly ran through my head!! And, of course, I just had to follow him for a little fun!

Shirley Squirrely!! I saw this little guy at my daughter’s when I dropped off the kids after school. It’s one of the animal toys, but it was so cute, just had to get a pic! I named it Shirley!

When I was visiting a LQS a couple of weeks ago (buying fabric for this youth quilt!) I ran across some wool charm packs and I’ve been itching to do something with them, so this DReAMi! moment evolved! My friend Sandra from Musings of a Menopausal Melon aka MMM Quilts coined this term and I love it. I’ll be linking up with her at the end of the month when she opens up her DReAMi *Drop everything and make it) Linky! After all, it is kind of like a dream floats through your brain, and instead of napping, you just chase it!

My idea started after seeing some free art work from one of my favorite sources, and knowing I had those wool charm squares! You don’t have to use wool, you can really use any cute fabric you’d like. As I said, I’ve just been itching to use the wool! LOL

This little project started with three little wool pieces and some background fabric, in my favorite color puple, of course! And another favorite color, green, for the back! Those colors just remind me of Easter and spring!

I cut out the little bunnies (and one tail!) and instead of using adhesive backing, I just glued them onto the fabric with Roxanne’s Glue Baste-It. I love this stuff! I use it a lot – especially to help with bindings!

Next, I used my friend Dione’s (from The Clever Chameleon) easy trapunto method to stitch them down. Now, I’m not as adept at this as she is! She does awesome work and has some really cute quilts. I’m really loving her Love with a Twist (as in balloons!) free quilt along this year!

Next I layered it with batting and backing and quilted it. I am definitely not used to using this machine for quilting! My FeFe (Pfaff) is in the shop and had to use my Ellisimo Gold, which hasn’t been used in a LONG time, to stitch and quilt this little baby! I’m not very good at quilting on my domestic machines! I did some free motion thread painting for the eyes, nose and mouth.

Next I trimmed and bound it by machine! And, now I have a cute little bunny mug rug/mini-mini quilt! This was a nice little diversion from making real (!) quilts! LOL

Instead of thread painting the inside of the ears, I cheated and used some fabric pens! Shhh, please don’t tell the quilt police! LOL

I hope you enjoyed this little tutorial. For a downloadable FREE PDF version, just click the picture below and you’ll be taken to the shop! You will need to register or login to download it.

Join me next week for the Be a Diamond Blog Hop! I’ll be linking up with some of my favorite blogs as they open up. Until then…

This is the quintessential DrEAMi! Brenda! I just LOVE it, and although I agree with your assessment of Dione’s skills, yours are fabulous and you have an adorable little mug rug! Thanks for linking this up. 🙂

Hi Brenda! Aww, I missed this at the time but this mug rug is adorable! Oh my goodness, Addison would just love this – she is all about shapes and seems to be drawn to bunnies. It is so darn sweet. ~smile~ Roseanne
