TGIF!! It’s been a long, short week! LOL In between my ruler class and my software class this week, I managed to get the mission quilt put together and on the frame!! Of course I had to have a little help from my friends getting it lined up!

That’s Chloe on the left at the bottom of the frame and Yogi on the left at the top! They are great quilting companions – I can always count on them to lie down exactly where I need to be! But they move when asked, albeit grudgingly!! They love looking out the doors of the Quilt Cave and are sure to let me know if a leaf or wildlife ramble across the yard!

So, in ruler class Wednesday at my  LQS, Zig Zag Studios in Pelham, AL we talked about the new (larger) Slice ruler by HandiQuilter. We had fun talking about ways to use it and playing around with it. I had been trying to decide how to quilt the borders on the mission quilt and I was glad the timing worked out for this class. I really like this ruler!

And this is how I used it for my border.

Of course, it wasn’t quite the right size to make an even number of motifs across the quilt, so I decided to improvise with another ruler we learned a while back called the Pillbox. I figured up how many motifs would go across the design and created five starting from the left, then went to the right side and did five starting from the right. Then I put the last one dead center of the quilt and of course had some space on either side, so I used the Pillbox and some free motion flowers to complete the border like this.

Not perfect, but different, and I like different! Next week, I hope to have this finished up. Until then…

Love your border treatment! What an excellent way to make the template fit the quilt.

      Thank you, Ann!

Fantastic 🙂 Love your improvisation in your quilting and use of multiple templates to get the job done. My LQS does a ruler class I want to do too…. when they manage to run it on a date that isn’t my daughter’s birthday…. my wedding anniversary…. etc. You name an occasion, they seem to pick it! But their luck can’t last forever…… 🙂

Thanks, Dione! Hopefully you will get that class soon. We have a lot of fun sharing our ideas with each other! Thanks for stopping by!
