Hands2Help & Carolina Hurricane Quilt Project

by | May 19, 2019 | 3 comments

Today is link up day over at Confessions of a Fabric Addict for Sarah’s Hands2Help Comfort Quilt Challenge 2019.

Sarah chose not one but five charities for this year’s challenge. They include Jack’s Basket, Mercyful Quilts, Quilty Hugs, Victoria Quilts, and Carolina Hurricane Quilt Project. All of these are very worthwhile charities that need some quilty love!

I had signed up earlier to help Carole quilt tops for the Carolina Hurricane Quilt Project. So I am linking up my quilted and bound quilts today, along with one in line to be quilted!

The first quilt I received was from Cumberland Valley Quilters Guild of TN (sent to me by Carol Fisher). This is a beautiful quilt and I am very pleased with how it turned out.

Beautiful pattern!

I quilted this with Ms. Mattie (my HQ Avante, lovingly named for my great grandmother, who taught me to sew, and the love of quilting), using an edge to edge pattern called Fast Feathers from My Creative Stitches. This mother and daughter team have some fantastic quilting designs. Please check them out if you use computerized designs in your quilting. (I’m not affiliated with them, but I get a few points added to my account when you click through my link and purchase a pattern.) I bound it using Moda Bias Binding (the BEST thing since sliced bread IMHO!!) (affiliate link)

The second quilt top was sent to me by Diane Beavers in Hampton, VA. This is a beautiful top in white, creams, grays, and blacks.

Love this pattern also!

I love feathers (can you tell?), so I quilted this one with an edge to edge called Flowing Feathers, also from My Creative Stitches. I love the way it turned out! There is so much texture on the back of the quilt.

And recently I received the third top to quilt for the Carolina Hurricane Project. While it is in the cue to be quilted as soon as I finish up with my quilts for our guild show in June, it will be done and also sent on its way to brighten someone’s life affected by the hurricanes. This was sent to me by Kathleen Gansert (KatieQ) who blogs at Katie’s Salt Marsh Path! Thank you Kathleen for allowing me to quilt your beautiful quilt. And thank you for sending binding as well!! Kathleen may have already linked up this top on Hands2Help. When I hopped over to Kathleen’s blog and read her post about this top, I was quite humbled to be called a “quilting angel!” I’ve never thought of myself as that, but thank you, Kathleen! I appreciate that sweet compliment! I am proud to be among a number of quilting angels for this project!

Those beautiful flowers were from my kiddos for Mother’s Day…and they’re still gorgeous!!

I want to thank all the wonderful ladies who sent these tops to me for quilting – for their time, fabric, and effort to make someone’s life a little happier. Many thanks to Carole who blogs at From My Carolina Home for coordinating the Carolina Hurricane Quilt Project. And thanks again to Sarah for hosting this quilt challenge. I believe this is her 9th year for the challenge, but she does many comfort quilts throughout the year.

I hope you have an awesome week. Until next time…
