Kinda Crazy??

Well, that’s a loaded question, now isn’t it?! Hi friends! Thanks for stopping by. Today I am sharing with you my RSC2021 Color Challenge block!

The challenge for this month is to use our pink scraps to make our block(s). I decided, for my RSC21 challenge quilt, I would make crazy quilt blocks – or in my case, it’s more like improv crazy quilt blocks! I dug out all my pink scraps and left over larger pieces from cutting applique from fat quarters, and with no particular pattern in mind, set out to make a block. The only thing I did was to make the center fabric I used be bordered with five different pink fabrics. Like, well, a regular crazy patch block. The rest was just fun putting the colors together and making them different angles. When I got this block a bit larger than the size I wanted, I used my Creative Grids 12-1/2 inch square and trimmed it up. Then, I starched it well and ironed it. HINT: Starch and iron BEFORE you trim up your block! LOL Since I did not prewash any of this fabric, I think it would have been better to starch and then trim. At any rate, while it may be a tad wonky, I am pleased with how it turned out. Lesson learned! Without further ado, I present my January RSC21 crazy quilt block!

Doesn’t that look pretty? I like the way it looks on the black background fabric with my little pink clips and my new pink rotary cutter!! I haven’t decided yet if I will go back and add stitching to make it more the style of a crazy quilt. I really love this block, so in answer to the question posed earlier, yes, I went a bit crazy! But then, that seems to be my MO as of late!! I guess I’m just trying to fit in with our crazy world! That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

Thanks so much for stopping by and indulging me in a little fun! See you in Tuesday!

I answer all comments via email. Please spread the love about my blog!

Hi Brenda, Your pink crazy quilt block with all of the different fun pink fabrics is adorable! I agree, it really stands out on the black fabric. Hope you aren’t getting any of the ice and snow we are expecting this week.

A beautiful block. It looks a lot like an ‘improv log cabin’ block. Honestly, if you had shrinkage after starching and ironing, I would just add another strip or piece on 2 sides, then starch and iron again, and finally take your 12.5″ ruler, tilt it a little and recut. It will maintain that crazy quilt look and you will have a block that you KNOW will work and not come up shy by just a bit. And hey, another scrap or 2 get used. Find some of those fun stitches on your machine, put some colorful thread in and a piece of tear away stabilizer underneath and have fun. Maybe a bit of lace in the process. 🙂 I love what I call “wonky blocks” as they are so fun to make.

Hi Brenda! Love, love, LOVE you and your crazy block. That looks like it was fun to make, and we all need some f.u.n. in our lives right about now. I have those same clips and the same rotary cutter – how about that?! I’ll try to remember to stage my pink block with those same props. HAHA! ~smile~ Roseanne

Crazy blocks are fun to make and use up scraps. I have a pink cutting mat that would go with your pink theme, but the block might get lost if you put it on top, lol!

That pink crazy block is so lively and pretty. I think it’s only right there’s a little wonk after trimming, in keeping with the crazy theme and all 🙂 I’m still deciding whether I want to join in on RSC. If so, I’d best get crackin’!!
