Greetings all! Welcome to day one, and my day to share my project for the Witchy Stitchy Blog Hop, hosted by Carol of Just Let Me Quilt! Thanks Carol for coordinating all this witchy-stitchy fun!!

When thinking about what I wanted to create for this Halloween hop, so many things came to mind! I’m just not into super scary Halloween critters, so I went a little more tame! I love drinking coffee, so mug rugs are one of my favorite things to make. In addition to quilting, I also love to digitize embroidery designs – especially in-the-hoop designs. So I took one of my digitized designs – Boo Brew – which can be found here and decided to do an applique version of it.

I digitized the art work (cup, saucer and Boo by Cheryl Seslar), reversed it, and got out my HeatnBond Lite fusible webbing. I was out of the printable sheets, but since this was a small project, it was fine to use my roll of HeatnBond Lite! I traced the reversed design onto the fusible, cut out about 1/4 inch around each part, and fused them to the fabric. Then I trimmed on the lines, peeled the backing and fused them to my background. While I’m not a fan of spiders, spider webs fascinate me with their intricacy! There’s an old song that goes something like “I don’t like spiders and snakes” – well that’s me!! ? Anyway, I really love this spider web background fabric – maybe because it sparkles!! I do love bling!!
I cut my background fabric 6 x 8 inches and the backing 8 x 10. I fused HeatnBond Fusible Fleece (which is on sale right now!) to the background fabric and dug out my Glowy thread and outlined everything, and used one of the decorative stitches on my Icon to go across the cup. Unfortunately, it doesn’t show as well as I would like because it’s been in my cabinet drawer for so long! But hopefully you can see a little of it in the second picture below. After stitching everything down, instead of traditional binding, I trimmed the backing to the size I wanted, folded it over twice and (kind of!) mitered the corners – or at least I tried to as best I could!! And tada, I present to you Boo Brew Mug Rug II, applique style!!

If you would like a free copy of the applique designs, please click here.
SURPRISE!!! I have a giveaway for you. I was going to create a second project but time slipped away too quickly! I will show you what it was and give you the opportunity to win a copy of the magazine it was in. I plan to make three of these for my grandkids all in their favorite colors! I thought they were really cute.

I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing how I created my “witchy stitchy boo-tacular” mug rug!! And I hope you’ll visit again soon! Until next time…
OH, Brenda, that is adorable. I love how it glows. Boo Brew is such a neat idea for a Halloween gift for any coffee drinker or friend.
I just found your blog through the blog hop. I am with you concerning the spiders and snakes. Yuck. I love this mug rug. Just my sort of Halloween decor. Thanks for the giveaway chance.
Your mug rug is booooo cute! Pumpkins, I love to see them everywhere this time of year. I have 3 foam ones that need an update, new paint, new decoration’s, etc. this year before they are put on display! Thank you for sharing!
I’d love to win a copy of the magazine! Thanks for the chance.
Your Boo Brew design is wonderful, and the applique version of it turned out great! The glowing stitching adds the perfect spooky touch!
I enjoy making fun, not scary decorations for Halloween. your mug rug is wonderful. thanks for the giveaway chance.

Halloween is a great excuse to make caramel apple spice cake!
Super cute mug rug! Thank you for sharing!
What a fun mug rug. The glow-in-the-dark thread added the perfect touch. Thank you for sharing.
Brenda that ghost has such a cute expression! I have made a similar zipper pouch before years ago for my grandson. The pouch I made had hair sticking up.
I love making Halloween costumes and have sewn for my daughter since she was young. Now grown and married I’m still sewing costumes for her and her husband.
Hi Brenda! This is one of the reasons I love these blog hops! I love catching up with blogs that I’ve read before but fell off my radar for some reason. I think it so cool that you can digitize your own patterns for embroidery, and what a cute one you converted to appliqué. That glow-in-the-dark fabric is so very, very cool for your grandkids. I’ll bet they just love it! And the little pouches with candy spilling out – well, those are just adorbs. The faces on them just make them even cuter, if possible. ~smile~ Roseanne
I love decorating for Halloween. My favorite thing that I created is a halloween fabric quilt. I always have it on the couch for the month of October.
I love these blog hops … they’re such a great way to see a wide variety of interpretations of the theme. All that creativity is amazing! Your digitized design is just darling; great job with it!! Happy happy, joy joy!! 🙂
I love your mug rug. Thanks for sharing
Such a cute mug rug! And love those M&M bags too!
I like to create little bowl filler 4×4 or smaller pillows with Halloween motifs
Such a spooky, but not too spooky, and cute mug rug! I love seeing that ghost pop out of the mug. Oh my gosh, those little zipper bags are too cute…I love them. I’m so glad you shared your Witchy Stitchy project with us by hopping along today!
How cute is that Boo! And the bags are so sweet.
I don’t like spiders and snakes but I LOVE Halloween. Cute projects.
Such cute projects!
I love your design. Thanks for sharing. The best part of HALLOWEEN for me is creating crafty things like wall hangings, wreaths and table runners, etc.
I used to love creating costumes for the kids for Halloween but these days it’s table runners or wall hangings. Love your mug rug. Thank you.
Cute mug rug. I just enjoy getting back into crafting around that time of the year.
Table toppers is what I make now. All the kids are grown, grandkids too old to T/or/T.
What do I like to make most for Halloween? Pillows + embroidery for the tables along with mug rugs. I’m glad you turned your machine embroidery to applique. It was well appreciated.
That is so cute … Add it to this month’s Halloween to do list. Thanks for sharing ..
So Cute and on my list to do this week …
Adorable ghostly mug rug!
Such a cute mug rug!! I love how it glows in the dark! This would make a perfect gift for my “mature” Halloweeners!
Adorable mug rug. Thanks so much for the pattern!
I love your mug rug! I don’t mind scary but I just don’t do a lot of holiday decorating. I love what you did and it is fun to see how used the glow-y thread. I don’t think I have ever used Heat N Bonds fusible fleece – I should get a package or two as that stuff is terrific to have about!
Cute! Thanks for sharing!
Great mug rug, love the webs. The grands will love their candy pouches. Sweet
these are so cute. your grandkids are going to love these pouches
Those little zipper pouches are just too cute!
I’m not much of a fan of halloween, so haven’t done any sewing for it, but I do like your mug rug. I have been thinking of making my sister a set of mug rugs for all seasons. Your mug rug may have to be in the set.
I love mug-rugs. They are so versatile. And easy to whip up. Yours is really cute. Favorite fall/Halloween decoration would have to be pumpkins, because they take you from Fall to Halloween, then right on thru to Thanksgiving.
Sew much fun! I love making mug rugs and little pouches too. Thanks for sharing. :o)
I like fall decorations rather than Halloween decorations for this time of year. Pumpkins, fall leaves and the like are my favorites. Thank you for the pattern. I love the idea of using glow thread. I have been wanting to try it.

Cute project and the glow in the dark thread is awesome.
Such cute treat bags! I love to make my son’s Halloween costumes. We typically start with a long-sleeve t-shirt or hooded sweatshirt and embelish from there into whatever he wants to be.
I make mug rugs for the seasons and yours is one I’d love to make a few of for our island! Thank you for the pattern. I really enjoy making pumpkin bars and pumpkin spice muffins during the Halloween week!
I love your mug rug! I actually really like that the glowy thread isn’t super bright. It makes it look a little more spooky. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.

What a cute design, I especially love it glowing in the dark.
VERY cute mug rugs, and so is the zipper design monster. Any child would love that, and what grown-up doesn’t have a wee bit of monster love in them? Isn’t that why we have children? =)
